Headphones Baby

by Andrew MacGregor

The Vaccines: “Headphones Baby” - 3 mins 18s

Life in a band called The Vaccines must be a mixed bag right now. On the one hand, 2021 marks the tenth anniversary of your best-selling debut album. On the other hand, anti-vaxxers hate your guts. Swings and roundabouts, eh?

There is a definite sense of escapism to the group's new single, as frontman Justin Young asks "Why go for beers when those people bore us" and insists "I wanna live inside a world, wherever you are." Understandable after the age of isolation.

Hello Love's Stella Belle Hex runs with the concept, blending trippy animation and jazzy, cheesy-grinned character designs. Meanwhile, canny use of a first-person perspective draws viewers even further into Young’s artful escape.
