Dying to say something.

State of Decay 2: “Nurse's Diary” - 4 mins 28s

Tough day? Week? Month? Just be thankful you're not scrambling for supplies two years into a zombie apocalypse. That's the premise of this gruelling short film promoting State of Decay 2.

The open world survival game pits players against the undead hordes. Of course, survival is relative in such hellish circumstances, and director Isaiah Seret depicts one woman's ordeal through her video camera.

The nurse's vlogs chart her ad hoc efforts to keep herself and others alive. Small gains - like a vial of medicine - mean everything, while the losses hit even harder. It's an effective means of weaving the game's mechanics into a tangible narrative.

That all this is achieved without gratuitous violence is equally impressive. Gorehounds may be disappointed, but this film has dread to spare.
