Oxfam: “The Heist No One Is Talking About” - 2 mins 20s

Why should we get angry when corporations don't pay their taxes? Obviously there's a sense that it's unfair, but that sits uneasily alongside the idea that it's rational to minimise our tax burdens. A lot of people acknowledge that they'd probably take advantage of loopholes to avoid paying tax if their wealth put them in a position to do so.

Oxfam have weighed in with a brutal reminder that there's another side to this argument and it has little to do with fairness. If rich corporations and wealthy individuals exploit their international status to pay the lowest amount of tax possible, vital services will be stripped away from people who need them.

In the film they've commissioned - which is directed by Stink's Tom Green - a gang rampages through a hospital grabbing anything and everything, regardless of the impact on cowering patients and medical staff. It's a stark reminder that advice offered by a tax accountant in London or New York can have ramifications far, far away. By concentrating on abstract notions of fairness when discussing corporate responsibility, we can develop a cognitive dissonance but this film is correct... if those with wealth take irresponsible decisions, they make it hard for governments around the world to look after their citizens.

Once the decision had been taken to use this allegory, it was vital that everyone committed fully and, to their enormous credit, Oxfam clearly backed this idea 100%, reminding us that we should be a lot more angry with tax-dodging corporations.
