Eggcellent Origins

by Syd Briscoe

McDonald's: “Free Range” - 40s

The provenance of eggs takes centre stage in this amusing commercial for McDonald's breakfast food menu. A bloke minding his own business at a bus stop is pulled into a fantasy supermarket by a mysterious hand and given a masterclass on how to spot the kind of bougie store where free range eggs are likely to be found.

From a hundred varieties of granola to wicker shopping baskets and wooden display cases, it's a pitch perfect pastiche of hipster grocery establishments. McDonald's have established themselves as the simple choice amid a sea of complex food outlets (see their range of coffee ads), and this classy film is a worthy addition to the canon.
