Hitachi: “Racing to Zero” - 2 mins

As COP26 approaches and pressure grows for governments to take meaningful action against climate change, conference partner Hitachi set out their stall with this intriguing film. Purportedly the first 'zero carbon' commercial on record, the two-minute piece focuses on low-emission transport options developed by the brand.

The action unspools in unhurried fashion here as director Ivan Bird focuses on atmosphere, adroitly using bicycle-powered generators to light the production. It's a meaningful statement about what can be achieved while maintaining a sustainable focus, while Sam Mendes's voiceover lends an appropriate dose of gravitas to proceedings.
