HSBC: “Local Heroes” - 60s

With Richard Ayoade unable to ramble across the UK as usual, Sandi Toksvig steps into the breach for HSBC’s ‘Local Heroes’ campaign. The QI host narrates an ode to those on the clock during the coronavirus pandemic, ranging from doctors and nurses to chefs and couriers. Whatever their role, they deserve our respect.

The diverse cast are all shown adhering to social distancing rules as you’d expect, and the ad certainly tries to show lockdown Britain in the best, most productive light possible. However, economic uncertainty and a controversial stance on Hong Kong sovereignty threatens the feel-good factor.
