The Eurovision of cars

by Jason Stone

Fiat: “Here With You” - 60s

Jacob Collier stars in this minute-long film for Fiat directed by Will Innes Smith which has the na´ve charm of a Eurovision song contest entry from one of those little countries that was either a part of the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia. The singer is shown making his way into the countryside and to the seaside in the all-electric vehicle accompanied by his own cover version of the Peggy Lee song 'Here with You'.

We don't tend to be overly concerned with the contents of the accompanying press release when we review your work, but in this case were going to make an exception. As so many have been in the last year-and-a-half, this was a production beset by problems, and after navigating false starts, tight deadlines and the refusal of summer to arrive in May, this film is far better than it has any right to be.

The production design and general look of the commercial takes its cues from the car itself, and successfully pitches the advertised vehicle as a fun car for environmentally-aware drivers in their twenties.
