Dramatic demonstation.

by Syd Briscoe

EE: “A Close Yet Far Shave” - 2 mins

The devil is in the details in this technology-driven commercial for EE. Staring Lucifer actor Tom Ellis alongside perennial spokesman Kevin Bacon, the film sees Ellis relieved of his facial fuzz in thrilling fashion - atop Snowdon, via robot. Well, he is known for his drama.

It's all to demonstrate the supposed consistency and speed of the brand's 4 and 5G mobile network, as a barber remotely wields the razor against Ellis's skin via video call. Director Henry-Alex Rubin maintains a nice balance of tension and humour throughout, as the camera cuts between Bacon's laidback cuppa and Ellis's sweaty-palmed endurance.

There's no way for viewers to verify the stunt's legitimacy for themselves, of course, but it's an eye-catching look at what's possible with high-powered connectivity. Even if those watching may not wish to put their necks on the line in similar fashion, it will spark ideas for how they'd use such capacity for themselves.
