Back on the gravy train.

by Syd Briscoe

Bisto: “Sticking Together” - 60s

Enduring friendships can be built on the strangest of foundations - shared hobbies, mutual interests, or even a love of gravy. At least, the latter is according to this charming ad for Bisto, which sees a pair of girls growing up together and bonding over their shared love of a good roast dinner.

It's the brand's first commercial outing in six years, and director Nicolas Jack Davies brings an assured hand to proceedings. Wholesome, homely vibes are the order of the day, emphasising the comforting nature of a family meal and sparking audience nostalgia.

The cyclical nature of the main pair's friendship is well drawn too, with the next generation kicking off a new round of sauce-based camaraderie at the film's end. Home (cooking) is where the heart is, and this ad suggests a little gravy only enhances the warm feelings all round.
