Film Klaxon: Striking with Pride - United at the Coalface.

by Andrew MacGregor

Almost ten years after 'Pride' swept the box office, a new documentary takes viewers back to South Wales. Directed by director Ashley Francis-Roy, 'Striking With Pride: United at the Coalface' explores the unlikely kinship between gays and lesbians from London and striking miners in the Dulais, Neath and Swansea valleys.

The cast includes Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) co-founder Mike Jackson, gay rights activist Jonathan Blake, former Labour MP Siān James, with Newport-born drag queen Tayce Szura-Radix as the narrator. With everyone in place, Francis-Roy realised the camaraderie between campaigners was as strong as ever.

"I'm so delighted to have the opportunity to tell this amazing story," he says. "It's an epic tale of love and friendship that is still so powerful forty years on, and teaches us an urgent lesson that we all need to hear now more than ever: we're stronger together. I'm so excited to get to work with the amazing people at the heart of this story and help bring their story to life."

You can watch Ashley Francis-Roy's latest work on Sky Documentaries and Now TV. Next, check out his Missing Link Films page and see why he's ready for TVCs.
