What dreams aren't made of.

by Andrew MacGregor

VW Golf: “Kids' Dreams” - 85s

To the strains of ‘If You Could Read My Mind' by Scala & Kolacny Brothers, this clever Volkswagen commercial shows children falling in love with automobiles of all shapes and makes… er, apart from VW.

Sebastian Strasser does a good job of captureing the young cast's four-wheeled revelry. Bugattis, DeLoreans, and pink Humvees all fire their imaginations - with VW failing to elicit the same response.

Still, the German manufacturers take the snub well - taking pride in their impressive safety record instead.

It's a wry gambit: not only are they protecting the nation's children, they're ensuring their future customer base at the same time.
