I'm John Malkovich and so's my wife

Squarespace: “John Malkovich” - 50s

John Malkovich has built his reputation on being other, gently menacing versions of himself. This was cemented in Spike Jonze's 1999 film 'Being John Malkovich', and we sense the actor still rather relishes the opportunity to play with someone else's idea of his identity.

Because now he has decided to offer up yet another version - in real life. An online branded content piece for the website building service SquareSpace shows Malkovich returning to his first love - fashion design - and the range of clothing that has resulted from his turning his back on the film industry.

From this has sprung a campaign proper for SquareSpace, in which the actor-turned-designer attempts to buy a domain name for his fashion website... only to discover that 'JohnMalkovich.com' is already taken.

Several spots - some more sweary than others - are breaking around the Super Bowl based on this premise. While we don't really see what the service does, the fact that someone of his magnitude is happy to be associated with it will surely allay doubts and pique interest of those in the market for a website. For the rest of us, we get to see a new name on the catwalk doing his familiar thing onscreen... being John Malkovich.
