Bath luck.

by Andrew MacGregor

Short Films: “Bite” - 4 mins 42s

Arachnophobes and anyone who values a peaceful soak in the bath may wish to give the following short film a miss. For everyone else, however, director Simon Berry's well-tuned horror takes a simple premise and ekes out the tension for as long as possible.

When a woman unpacks her shopping, she fails to notice a spider emerge from a bunch of bananas. Friendly beast that it is, the hairy intruder follows her into the bathroom… and introduces itself in horrifying fashion.

The protagonist's wordless performance (in the bathroom, no one can hear you scream) is ideally pitched, while the closing shot may prompt viewers to sew their mouths shut. Excruciating, but impossible to tear your eyes from.
