Te amo, Molly from Exeter.

by Andrew MacGregor

Saga Holidays: “Europe” - 30s

As a Spanish guitarist regales his fellow cafe patrons with talk of Molly "the perfect compass for this old sea dog", one presumes he is referring to a long lost love or a fantasy suitor. As it happens, Pepe's seaside vision is actually a holidaymaker from Exeter… and she's left more of an impression on the locals than expected.

Genial and well-performed, the ad encourages seasoned holidaygoers to follow Molly's example and make a mark on their chosen destination. Even if one is unlikely to inspire local balladeers to pour their hearts out, over-fifties travellers can at least envision themselves as unlikely cultural ambassadors.
