PlayOJO: A Bunch of Clints

by Syd Briscoe

PlayOJO: “Clint Quits” - 40s

Clint quits his job at an online casino in spectacular fashion in this unusual ad for new, 'fairer' betting site PlayOJO. The guy bites a biro in half with rage, staples a toy dog to the wall, and assaults a cheese and pickle sandwich - all because he's absolutely disgusted by the 'nice' way the company conducts its business.

There's a lot going on here, but it works. We hear Clint's internal monologue rail against playing fair, see his dramatic exit through a bewildered office, and cut repeatedly to black and white shots which suggest he's about to go full Taxi Driver. The dark ink dribbling from his mouth is a nice touch, giving the sequence an edge of threat to balance its humour.

A fantastic performance from Geoff Bell makes this film stand out at a time when the online gambling market must surely be reaching saturation. Director Chris Woods has created something intriguing for his first UK commercial - we'll be interested to see where this campaign goes next.
