Danish Superhumans

by Jason Stone

Parasport Denmark: “How Hard Can It Be?” - 84s

This Danish film demonstrates the universality of the 'superhumans' phenomenon that we've come to associate with Channel 4 through their coverage of the Paralympics.

It follows the well-established path of introducing us to individuals who are utterly determined to overcome their disabilities.

Even though this has become a familiar theme, it still produces an awed response from most audiences. The positivity - as always - is uplifting, but it's actually the unflinching depiction of impairment which gives this its importance.

Increased awareness of the difficulties faced by disabled people who aren't training for the next Paralympics is just as crucial as celebrating those who are, and this film provides glimpses of a reality which still causes many of us to look the other way.
