A Brave News World

by Syd Briscoe

New York Times: “Fearlessness” - 2 mins 11s

The New York Times celebrates gusty journalism in another gripping film as part of their recent series exploring the work that goes into building a story. With the phrase 'fake news' bandied about as frequently as votes on Brexit deals, the series offers a timely reminder of what real journalism looks like.

Onscreen text again proves an effective tool, as it links disparate scenes together while a story concerning ISIS develops. From emphasising frustration when progress stalls for days or weeks to words dashing rapidly across the screen in excitement when evidence is finally found, it provides an unexpectedly stirring connection to the action.
