Lloyds Bank: “Get The Inside Out” - 60s

Lloyds Bank draw attention to invisible disabilities in this compelling piece of work. The film was created after the brand won a million quid's worth of airtime through Channel 4's Diversity in Advertising initiative (well, technically this bid came second but Grey London and Volvo had an extraordinary communication breakdown about their winning entry and decided to withdraw.

In the Lloyds film, celebrities, bank staff and members of the public play an unusual version of a familiar post-it note game. Instead of guessing who they are, each is trying to work out what mental health problem they've been diagnosed with.

It's a hugely effective device and one that bears repeated viewings. Director Max Fisher has clearly opted to keep participants genuinely in the dark about the malady adhered to their foreheads and this makes for some striking reactions once the mystery is uncovered.

Not only is this a neat way to highlight misconceptions about mental illness, it's an approach which seems sure to spark much-needed conversations about mental health.

Well done to adam&eveDDB and Lloyds (not least for talking to each other about their idea!) and to Channel 4 for a brilliant and generous scheme.
