John Mayer: Still Feel Like Your Man

by Syd Briscoe

John Mayer: “Still Feel Like Your Man” - 4 mins 10s

This strikingly odd promo sees John Mayer do his best Hotline Bling in a hallway, pal around with pandas, and try to win back an unattainable butterfly girl through the power of dance.

The aesthetic is a slightly strange mash-up of vaguely Japanese things (despite the fact we clock only one Asian actor - has 'Ghost in the Shell' taught us nothing?), but director Mister Whitmore's stylish execution captures attention and does a lot to elevate the somewhat banal song ('I still keep your shampoo in my shower/in case you want to wash your hair'... okay, John).

While skirting close to moments of comedy - such as Mayer's hip-thrusting panda dance routine - he never fully commits to humour. It's no mean feat to play any aspect of this neon-tinged weirdness straight, and Mister Whitmore pulls it off admirably.
