The gift of flight.

by Andrew MacGregor

Intu: “The Impossible Gift” - 30s

First space helmets, now aviator hats… high-flying headwear is enjoying something of a boom during this Christmas ad season, and shopping centre moguls Intu are the latest advertiser to doff their cap, as it were

Sticking with the avian theme first introduced in 2016, the brand present a new stop-motion flock in this 30" commercial, as a duckling yearns to fly like its older siblings. Alas, take-off seems impossible… until modern technology swoops in to save the day.

This underduck tale is nicely realised by director Joseph Mann, whose stop-motion flair lends a tangible quality to proceedings. Whether it sparks the level of footfall craved by the likes of Intu remains to be seen, but the craft on show merits a trip out.
