Smashing Work

by Syd Briscoe

Head & Shoulders: “Smash Therapy” - 30s

Head & Shoulders's American arm take a novel approach for their Super Bowl outing. No flake-free shoulders or impressively hirsute footballers here - instead, this film directed by Nick Ball focuses on a primal experience known as 'Smash Therapy'.

The real-life business - started by "headstrong" entrepreneur Jennifer - allows patrons to seek inner peace by smashing away their frustrations, channelling destructive urges at everything from used furniture to old Christmas decorations.

The ad itself is an attention-grabbing orgy of chaos, and is likely to earn the shampoo plaudits for championing a small business. Plus, it may provide losing Rams fans with an opportunity to ease their Super Bowl blues.
