Distance Between Worlds

by Syd Briscoe

Emergency: “Everyone Has A Dream” - 90s

This powerful ad for Italian charity Emergency reminds us of the huge gap which can exist between realities - all caused by something as simple as where a person is born. The film presents goals which are fairly universal - having somewhere to live, someone to share that life with - and allows the audience to become fully immersed in the fantasy before revealing the speaker's truth.

It's an effective turn, especially as director Igor Borghi keeps it intentionally ambiguous as to what the film could be advertising until the reveal. Thought-provoking work which is sure to spark conversation... and hopefully the odd donation to the advertised organisation.
