Guiding Lights

by Syd Briscoe

Dunnes Stores: “Shine a Light” - 90s

Dunnes Stores pump up the feel-good factor in this charming Christmas outing. Evoking some old-school Stranger Things vibes, the film sees a plucky group of children conspiring to ensure Santa can't miss their town on Christmas Eve.

Snowstorms are no impediment to these youngsters, who gather up all the lights they can find whilst encouraging adults to run up their electricity bill - including a friendly employee at the advertised department store, of course.

It's a familiar premise, but one skilfully handed by director Henry Mason and given a hefty whack of charm by a well-chosen cast and a rousing seasonal soundtrack.
