Breaking the Food Chain

by Syd Briscoe

Corona Extra: “The Fish (with Parley)” - 60s

Plastic waste affecting the environment is a serious issue, but that doesn't mean films addressing it can't be fun. This duality is what makes this piece of work from Corona Extra so compelling, as it marries quirky animation and eye-catching character design with a vital message about cleaning up the planet.

Directed by stop-motion guru PES, the piece sees trash left on the beach (inside a turtle skeleton, which has dark implications) transform into a freakish fish that comes to life. Fortunately, human intervention prevents the beast from harming other creature, emphasising the vital role of our own actions in reversing environmental damage.

Cinematographer: Eric Adkins
Production Designer: Kyle Arneson
Art Department: Greg Pinsoneault
Animation: Alfonso Estrada
