Crouch and about.

by Andrew MacGregor

Carphone Warehouse: “Switcheroo” - 30s

Football's most enduring beanpole Peter Crouch stars in this 30" outing for Carphone Warehouse, which comically riffs on the 6'7" striker's varied playing career. As Crouch strides along the high street, his shirt changes colour in virtually every shot to match one of his many former clubs (though not Dulwich Hamlet, unfortunately).

As well as this colourful running joke, Cesar Herszkowicz and Marcos Almirante's script also includes a choice gag involving Crouch and a theatre marquee. Anti-heightism groups may shift nervously in their chairs, but it's all playfully realised by director Andy McLeod.

Such levity is all to take the edge off switching mobile networks at the advertised retailer. The brand's offer earns Crouch's approval, though leaning on the striker's cult appeal may dissuade non-football fans.
