Howlin' (and meowin') for you.

by Andrew MacGregor

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home: “Rescues” - 60s

This disarming commercial for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home has plenty of wiggle in its tail, as the charity pay tribute to rescue animals of all shapes and sizes. Confidently scored by The Black Keys's ‘Howlin' for You', the film bids to take ownership of the rescue label and challenge preconceptions about sheltered mutts and moggies.

The London-based charity certainly put their best paw forward, with wildlife filmmaker Mateo Willis presenting his cast in the best light possible. The result is a playful yet self-assured shift in tone for this sector, which can often tug too hard on the old heartstrings. Here, it's been done with extra swagger to boot.
