Stan the Man

by Syd Briscoe

Adidas: “Superstan” - 54s

Former world number one tennis player Stan Smith fronts this quirky campaign for his signature Adidas trainer collection. The sporting legend seems to be living the high life in retirement, as he chills out with his many trophies, ambles around the neighbourhood, and partakes in a solo picnic just for fun.

Smith delivers a game performance here, producing a tennis ball to wave flirtatiously at the camera as he's intercut with shots of people wearing his eponymous shoes in different contexts. He may be living a life of leisure these days, but his name still stands for sporting excellence.

Boasting a pleasantly nostalgic grade and gentle soundtrack - a far cry from the beat-driven sounds we typically associate with this sector - this is an overall classy affair which introduces a new generation to the man they, ahem, wear.
