Aoife McArdle

Aoife McArdle is a writer and director from Omagh in Northern Ireland. She favours the authenticity of street casting over using trained actors, which gives her narratives centred around youth culture a genuine feel.

McArdle is known for her distinctive visuals, replete with low lighting and long, choreographed shots. She initially made her name through her work with U2, shooting 'Open Eye Signal' and 'Every Breaking Wave' for the band.

Director Aoife McArdle's second contribution to this Winter Olympics campaign features a man on the run. Nothing can halt his progress. Charging through mist and red lights, the protagonist lists every obstacle he has overcome so far. However, a jolting coda shows his biggest challenge is well underway.
