J C Chandor

J C Chandor has honed his own subtle yet distinct narrative voice and vision over the past 15 years through directing, producing and writing award-winning documentaries, commercials and narrative films.

Chandor was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his debut feature film Margin Call (2011), which he also directed.

In May of 2013 Chandor premiered his second film All Is Lost, starring Robert Redford, in Official selection at the Cannes Film Festival and was recognized at the Oscars, BAFTAs and Golden Globes.

Chandor’s third movie A Most Violent Year stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. The film has received critical acclaim with many comparing this film favourably to the works of Sidney Lumet, praising the performances of the two leads.

The New Yorker
There's a terrific sense that something strange is going on in this commercial for the world's greatest journal. Brilliant sound design and intimate camera angles put us inside the headspace of a young man as he walks through a Los Angeles railway station. It's as though his curiosity is aroused by everything around him, and this appears to be how The New Yorker is positioning itself.
