Blink have signed Tokyo based director and artist Show Yanagisawa to their roster.
Yanagisawa graduated from the Tama Art University in 2005, and began his artistic career as an oil painter and graffiti artist. His fine art roots have had a lasting impact on his work, imbuing his visuals with the abstract sensibility which has become his signature style.
Yanagasiwa is perhaps best known for his gravity-defying work for Playstation. 'Gravity Cat' gained huge amounts of attention for its whimsical story - that of two sisters trying to handle a mischievous kitten while the world shifts around them - and masterful VFX work.
The long-form commercial took home a slew of awards, and established Yanagisawa as a master of the weird and wonderful. His whimsical approach to narrative really shines through the polished, reality-shifting work.
Yanagisawa's latest groundbreaking film builds on his reputation for finding innovative ways to deliver a brand's message. The 'High School Girl' spot for beauty brand Shiseido has a radical message which turns both cultural and industry norms on their head.
We won't spoil the reveal for you, but needless to say we recommend you watch till the end.
It's clear that Yanagisawa has a unique way of looking at the world, and his perspective shines through his work in all its forms.
He's planning to move into longer format and music promo work at his new home with Blink, and his short film for NHK 'Decay' shows he has a knack for pairing images and music. Following a bus ride in which a woman's dress changes with the seasons, it suggests Yanagisawa's forays into music video will be just as compelling as his commercial work.
Show Yanagisawa's reel is available at Blink, so head over and take a gander. For more information on him or anyone else on the roster, get in touch with Ben Sharpe at firstname.lastname@example.org or give the team a ring at 020 7494 0747.
