Ryan Hopkinson heads to Caviar.

by Syd Briscoe

Caviar have signed London-based director Ryan Hopkinson for representation in the UK and Amsterdam. Hopkinson is an acclaimed visual artist, known for his highly conceptual visuals and design-driven approach to filmmaking. His astute aesthetic eye has made him an in-demand director for major brands worldwide.

Concerned with exploring the intricate beauty of his subjects in unusual ways, Hopkinson has demonstrated an enviable ability to find a new perspective on familiar topics.

His work for luxury skincare brand Biotherm uses light and shadow to show water and bubbles in innovative ways. The stripped back visuals are compelling, even relaxing to watch.

Hopkinson is dedicated to creating his work in-camera as much as possible, and has built up a wealth of experience in live action and technical camera work as a result.

His work in collaboration with It's Nice That for Channel 4's Random Acts, 'Only Human', shows off his eye for intimate detail. Looking at the reality of runners of all ages and levels of fitness, Hopkinson's intimate visuals explore the body as canvas and focus on skin, bone, and sweat.

Often creating complex set pieces for his work, Hopkinson is no stranger to experimentation and implementing unusual techniques to create a desired visual effect.

His film 'Demon Days' for Nowness is a triumphant example of this, imbued with colour and life as Hopkinson employs meat, blowtorches, chemicals, and unusual camera lenses to offer his own distinctive take on the 'Demon Chef' Alvin Leung's food philosophy.

Caviar are looking forward to working with the young director and nurturing his filmmaking talents.

Managing Executive Producer at Caviar London, Sorcha Shepherd: "Ryan's work is visually stunning, but there's also a deep thought process behind his concept driven pieces. The way he captures beauty, movement and textures really caught our eye, and we are extremely excited about developing his career in film."

Ryan Hopkinson's reel is now live at Caviar, so head over and take a look at some more of his work. For information on him or anyone else on the roster, get in touch with Georgie MacEchern at georgie.macechern@caviar.tv or give them a ring on 020 3219 7960.
