Ric Cantor is a Friend indeed.

by Andrew MacGregor

Friend London have brought experienced comedy director Ric Cantor into the fold as they target a productive second half to 2019.

Cantor first made his mark writing for the likes of Da Ali G Show and directing both series of BBC2 sketch show Man Stroke Woman. He's since transferred his skills to the commercial realm, where his brand of character-driven humour has been allowed to flourish.

For example, there's a particular strain of cheeky humour we've come to associate with Maltesers in recent years, and this ad starring comic duo Watson & Oliver shows Cantor has a well-tuned sense of the brand's tone.

This soon inspired more brands including Mr Kipling, Philadelphia, and estate agency Savills to enlist Cantor's services, with each campaign benefiting from the director's light touch and professionalism.

Ric is a well established and fantastically talented comedy director and we're super excited to be working with him in the UK.

Cantor's knack for tone is also evident in his 2016 ad for the New Zealand Transport Agency, which serves a serious yet playful reminder for drivers of their responsibilities as both road users and as friends. It's a tricky balancing act but Cantor handles it to perfection.

It's little wonder that Friend London's Luke Jacobs is so thrilled at his newest addition: "Ric is a well established and fantastically talented comedy director and we're super excited to be working with him in the UK. We can't wait to get going with the next stage of his career."

For now though, we'll leave you with one of four Christmas ads Cantor shot for Debenhams that convey the satisfaction of buying someone the perfect gift. Despite the brand's off-screen woes, the campaign raises some much-needed smiles.

Think Ric Cantor would suit your next project? Then ring Friend London's Luke Jacobs (luke@friendlondon.tv) to get the ball rolling.
