Object & Animal unveil Andrew Thomas Huang.

by Andrew MacGregor

Object & Animal say they have signed a "true polymath director" in the shape of Andrew Thomas Huang.

Huang has been plying his trade in the industry for over a decade now, graduating from low-budget short films to highly accomplished promos for the likes of Björk, Atoms for Peace, and FKA twigs at a brisk rate.

Demand for Huang's services has led to a reel filled with what Object & Animal's Morgan Clement describes as "culturally resonant films which defy genre and category". Given that Huang's recent promo for FKA twigs has already notched up nearly four million views online, Clement's confidence seems justified.

Huang himself describes ‘Cellophane' as "a dance-of-the-death striving toward unattainable perfection, the fall from grace, and the fragility of putting yourself back together" - which is a good indication of Huang's lofty narrative ambitions.

Andy’s ability to work across a vast range of media makes him the perfect fit for Object & Animal and the work we will continue to make together.

It's little wonder then that Huang struck a chord with Icelandic polymath Björk, with the pair collaborating on numerous promos-cum-performance art videos. For example, this 2017 effort runs just shy of seven minutes yet fully engrosses with its skilfully rendered visual effects and ethereal vibe.

As Object & Animal's Dom Thomas notes, Huang's "ability to work across a vast range of media" makes him an ideal fit for the company's multi-disciplinary roster - and a director worth keeping an eye or two on in the coming months.
