Martin Krejci eyes success with Blink.

by Andrew MacGregor

Blink round off 2017 with another high-profile signing: Czech director Martin Krejci. Since graduating from Prague's Academy of Performing Arts, Krejci has become one of adland's most sought-after directors. As budgets and expectations grow, so does Krejci's skillset.

The Czech has found particular success in the drinks sector. Widely known for playing Bond villains and cannibalistic psychiatrists, Mads Mikkelsen reveals his playful side as Carlsberg's (bicycle) spokesman.

Part lager ad, part lifestyle video, it's offers a whimsical spin on the brand's time-honoured philosophy. With alcohol brands pursuing increasingly discerning drinkers, Krejci delivers an urbane romp.

[Krejci’s] a wizard. He’s a great storyteller with incredible visual and technical ability.

Krejci also earned plaudits for Smirnoff's ‘The Double Side' film. Shot for the African market, the vodka celebrate those who work hard and play harder. Krejci took a fluid shoot and anti-malaria medication in his stride.

Such resilience only strengthened Blink's interest. Managing Director James Studholme says: "I've been a huge admirer of Martin's work for years. He's a wizard. He's a great storyteller with incredible visual and technical ability.

"I'm thrilled that we have the opportunity to be part of the next chapter of his career."

With TVCs and feature films in his sights, Krejci says he's "honoured and excited and curious and ready" for what's to come.
