Seasoned commercials director and lapsed cricketer John Turner is the latest to join Matt Brown's contingent at Dark Energy.
Cricket's loss proved to be advertising's gain as one-time Nottinghamshire man Turner ditched his bat 'n' ball in favour of a camera, pursuing still photography before shifting into live action. Since then, he's established himself as a TVC director with a cinematic bent.
A self-confessed movie buff, Turner employs "a non-linear shooting style" whenever and wherever possible. This allows him to capture spontaneous moments that may otherwise be overlooked, lending further weight to his documentary-inspired approach.
His refined methods continue to attract brands from numerous sectors, with Turner's recent work for Fiat and Philips ultimately bringing him into Dark Energy's orbit.
Turner explains: "I did my recent projects for Conde Nast through Dark Energy but I have known Matt [Brown] for years. I had such a great experience on those films and that combined with mine and the industry's respect for Matt made it an exciting and natural fit."
