Channel 4's Diversity in Advertising Award is back and this year's theme is how the LGBTQ+ community is represented on our screens.
Brands have until Wednesday 10th July 2019 to pitch their ideas and compete for £1m's worth of commercial airtime. Four runners-up will also receive a contribution of £250,000 each to make their ads regardless.
According to Channel 4, the onus is on brands to "up their game" and offer a more nuanced portrayal of LGBTQ+ individuals without resorting to stereotypes or tokenism. The hope is that the winning entry can spark futher progress in the industry.
The quality of previous Diversity in Advertising Award winners offers grounds for optimism. 2019's brief follows bold campaigns based around the representation of women, disability, and mental health issues, so entrants best be at the top of their game.
